Dry Needling
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used by trained physical therapists and other healthcare providers to relieve musculoskeletal pain and improve mobility. By targeting myofascial trigger points—tight, sensitive bands within muscle tissue—dry needling can help reduce pain, decrease muscle tension, and restore normal movement patterns. Research and clinical practice show it can be effective for conditions such as chronic muscle pain, sports injuries, tension headaches, and movement dysfunction.
The procedure involves inserting very thin, sterile filiform needles into or near these trigger points to stimulate the muscle. This may cause a brief twitch response, which is a sign that the muscle is releasing tension. The stimulation helps reset dysfunctional muscle fibers, improve blood flow, and promote healing.
